The Cougars defeated IU Northwest Tuesday night 102-51. Based off the box score, the Cougars forced 28 turnovers while committing 13 of their own. Knowing that the Cougars like to apply a ton of pressure, it's a pleasant surprise to see only 8 personal fouls committed by CSU. This is typically a trouble area for the team and ends up contributing to their losses. The leading scorer was Rosenberg which is no surprise. Clarke finished with 22 points. Freshman Anthony Glover add 9 points and went 2-2 from the 3pt line. I think Glover is going to be a name to watch throughout this year and his career at CSU as he has been a heck of a shooter early on. Finally, it was nice to see Aaron Williams, Michael Johnson, Rahjan Muhammad, and Sharieff Medlock making their first appearances of the year. If this team is going to compete in the WAC this year they'll need to be healthy so it's nice to have some more bodies -- especially experienced ones like Williams and Muhammad. Now we can only need Kurt Karis and Sean Hill to have a complete team -- one thing they never experienced all of last year. One thing the Cougars still need to improve on is their 3 point shooting. The team only shot 33.33% from three against IU NW.
The Cougars next contest is against the Trolls at TCC on Saturday at 2:05. After that, the real test will begin with the CBE Hall of Fame Classic in Rochester, MI. The team will face three quality opponents in Georgia State, Oakland, and Western Carolina. If we have a healthy team going into that tournament, I think we could possibly take all three games.
