The Cougars face the Wolverines tonight in Orem at 8:05 CT. The game can watched at www.uvu.edu/uvutv/ .
This is a big game for the Cougars since Utah Valley sits atop the WAC with a 5-0 conference record. A win by the Cougars would tie up first place! Hopefully we can keep the road mojo going. We'll definitely need some of those deep Quinton Pippen threes to fall this game.
Here are the game notes provided by Chicago State University athletics website (http://gocsucougars.com/news/2014/1/24/MBB_0124141655.aspx):
ABOUT THE GAME - Utah Valley is the Western Athletic Conference's only club without a conference loss. The Cougars are the only team in the WAC with just one WAC loss. Saturday's winner will gain an early edge in the race for the No. 1 seed in the WAC Tournament.
ALL TIME SERIES - The Cougars and Wolverines were members of the Great West Conference for four years before joining the WAC this season. Utah Valley owns a 10-3 series advantage over the Cougars. The Cougars won 62-54 at the Jones Convocation Center on Jan. 26, 2013 last year but fell 76-69 in Orem on March 2, 2013.
ROAD WARRIORS - A win on Saturday over Utah Valley would give the Cougars a perfect 4-0 record on the road in the month after going 0-4 in November and December, respectively.
ROADKILL - This year is the second time in school history the Cougars have started 3-0 on the road in conference play. The 1999-00 team opened Mid-Continent Conference play with victories at Western Illinois, IUPUI and Oakland before losing at Southern Utah.
DOUBLE-DIGITS WINS - The Cougars' next victory will put them at 10 on the season. It will be the 10th time the Cougars record 10 victories in a season since Chicago State joined NCAA Division I in 1984-85. It will also be the third time in Division I school history the Cougars earn 10 or more wins in a year in back-to-back seasons.
MATCHING LAST YEAR - With nine wins the Cougars have already matched last year's regular season win total. The Cougars finished last season 11-22 with a pair of victories coming in the Great West Conference Tournament.
LAST TIME OUT - The Cougars bounced back from a loss at home to UTPA by defeating Bakersfield 71-63 on Thursday (Jan. 23). Clarke Rosenberg (Skokie, Ill./Evanston Township) led the Cougars with 21 points.
UP NEXT - Chicago State hosts Grand Canyon on Thursday (Jan. 30) at 7:05 p.m. The 'Lopes are coached by former NBA player Dan Majerle.
