The Cougars start off the season 0-3. In their second game of the year, the had a three run lead going into the ninth. Unfortunately, they were unable to hold on and gave up 6 runs in the top half of the inning. They have a double header this Saturday (Feb 22nd) against Savannah State. Hopefully they will be able to pick up their first win of the year!

After losing the series against Savannah State, the Cougars were back in action on Thursday winning both of their games against St. Bonaventure and Nebraska Omaha, respectively. Unfortunately, the Cougars couldn't keep it going today in a loss to UNO. Their record is now 3-6 on the year. They finish the Snowbird Classic tomorrow against Lehigh.

Chicago State did not want to leave Florida after going 3-1 in the Snowbird Classic! They finish the tournament with a dominate 8-1 win against Lehigh. This pushes their record to 4-6 on the year (great start). What would have been the Cougars first home game of the year was postponed due to snow. The team now heads to Northwestern State, actually in action right now, for a three game tournament. They're playing NW State tonight and tomorrow and finish with McNeese State on Sunday. At the moment, the Cougars are up 9-3 in the top of the 8th! If they can win 2 out of 3 in the tournament, it would be an outstanding start to the year for the team!

The Cougars are currently 9-10 and having their best start since the 2000 season when they started the season 9-4. During that season, the team ended up finishing 17-30. It's been since the 1984 season that they finished .500 or better. I know it's early but there's definitely some excitement about the program this year and what head coach Steve Joslyn has already done. If he can continue to keep the club around .500 or *gasp* better, I'd say he deserves Coach of the Year! The Cougars begin conference play later this week at GCU (3/28-3/30). Hopefully they will be able to start off strong and win their first conference series of the year! Fans can follow the games on www.sidearmstats.com/gcu/baseball/

After a very positive start, the Cougars have won 6 of their last 31. Conference play has not been very friendly and the team is poised to miss the WAC tournament. With only three games left to play, the Cougars improved on the win total from last year and really that's all we're asking. They have some exciting, young players like Sanford Hunt, and I'm ready to see team get to 20+ wins next year and make the WAC tournament in Joslyn's third season.
